Trump Persists with Lawsuits as Biden Transition Begins

As the Biden administration forms, President Donald Trump is persisting with his lawsuits challenging the election results, mainly in the states of Georgia, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

In Georgia, Trump has had a few lawsuits rejected, and a recount of the votes confirmed a victory for President-elect Joe Biden. The certification of these results will make it very challenging for Donald Trump to continue with any form of legal pressure..

Georgia also has two key runoffs coming up that will determine the future of the 117th U.S. Senate. Senator Kelly Loeffler (R-GA) is taking on Democratic challenger Raphael Warnock, and Warnock seems to be leading the race in very tight poll averages by RealClearPolitics. In the other runoff, Senator David Perdue (R-GA) is leading Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff in another tight race according to RealClearPolitics. Republicans need one more seat for a Senate majority, even though one of those Republicans would be Susan Collins (R-ME), who is a swing vote on many topics.

In Michigan, the Trump team is still waging lawsuits in order to trigger a statewide recount. Hearings have been going on in Detroit, but the Trump legal team continues to fail in pursuit of recounts in the state. The certification of the results occurred in November, but Republicans are still persisting and pushing heavily in the state.

In Pennsylvania, a series of Trump lawsuits calling for recounts and claiming voter fraud have been rejected by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, as have his attempts to get a recount in the state. Republican lawmakers in Pennsylvania, though, believe that there is a case in the state and are pushing for Congress to get involved and force a recount. However, the margin of votes in Pennsylvania is much greater than those of the other states being subjected to this level of scrutiny, and a recount is improbable to have an effect on the results.
